DAWN Action Grants
WHAT IS THE GOAL OF THE DAWN ACTION GRANTS?
To provide financial support for a well-defined advocacy activity(s) that promotes the legislative agenda of the Wisconsin Council on Developmental Disabilities. A well-defined advocacy activity has a specific goal, and a planned concrete event or activity that has a measurable outcome(s).
WHO CAN APPLY?
- People with developmental or other disabilities
- Family members of people with disabilities
- Local or statewide consumer-led grassroots advocacy organizations where people with a disability and/or family members are a majority of the membership and, if applicable, the board of directors.
HOW MUCH CAN I APPLY FOR?
You can apply for up to $500 per advocacy activity. The funds will be distributed on an as needed basis until the funds are expended.
HOW DO I APPLY?
Complete the two page DAWN Action Grant Application. The Wisconsin Council on Developmental Disabilities will notify you within a month if your proposal is funded. If you need a quicker response, please let us know.
WHAT CAN I USE THE GRANT MONEY FOR?
The following lists some but not all the ways you may use grant:
- Non-partisan legislative breakfast or other legislative advocacy event
- Non-partisan candidate forums or questionnaires
- Get-out-the-vote activity
- Publicity for an advocacy activity or event (ex. printing, postage)
- Letter writing campaign
You cannot use the money for salary, operating expenses (rent, utilities, equipment) or to replace any existing funding. DAWN funds can only be used for non-partisan activities and therefore cannot be used to support an individual candidate.
