1. Special Education Update
Special Education funding that is included in the Senate version of the Budget bill has a strong possibility of making it through the conference committee. The Senate version of the budget adds $27 million to Special Education Categorical Aids in fiscal year 2002.

2. Action Steps within the next week
- Contact your Senator and express your opinion about the special education funding package in the Senate version of the budget repair bill. If you support this funding package, ask that they contact Senate leadership to urge them to keep this provision in the conference committee budget bill.
- Contact your Representative and express your opinion on this important issue. Remind them that everyone involved in education understands that special education is critically underfunded. This means that all children are being harmed. If you support this funding package, ask your Representative to contact Assembly leadership to urge them to support this provision in the conference committee budget bill.
- If your legislator is a member of the conference committee, contact them and encourage them to support this provision in the final conference committee bill. To find out who the members of the conference committee are check the DAWN website at:
