2006 Legislative Outcomes

Our Legislature section provides information on bills of interest to the disability community, such as mental health insurance parity, state centers task force, and voting legislation.

Final Update

The legislature has finished working on bills. The legislature is preparing for elections in November 2006, when all the seats in the Assembly and half in the Senate will be up for election. State-wide offices up for election include Attorney General, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Secretary of State. The State Elections Board has information about candidates and how and where to vote.

This year the Republicans has held a majority of the seats in both the Assembly (60-39) and Senate (19-14). The Assembly Majority Leader is Michael Huebsch (R-West Salem) and the Senate Majority Leader is Sen. Dale Schultz (R-Richland Center). The Speaker of the Assembly is John Gard (R-Peshtigo) and the President of the Senate is Alan Lasee (R-DePere). Rep. John Gard is leaving the Assembly to run for Congress, so next year a new Speaker will have to be chosen.
